projects, mastering valuable computer skills in word processing,
spreadsheets and other productivity software.
Introduction to the desktop
Navigation skills & Internet safety
Introduction to productivity, reference and educational software
Learning Internet search skills to find and review information
How computers work, identifying parts and knowing technical
terms
SKILL TECH II
Skill Tech II focuses on developing specific,
age-appropriate technology skills with an emphasis on computer hardware,
networking and the Internet. It teaches advanced yet practical computer
skills to Club members ages 6 to 18.
Features three eight-session programs
for three age groups: 6-9, 10-13 and 14-18.
Uses animated, interactive tutorials and
hands-on, instructor-led group activities
with a fun, spy-related theme with sessions
called “missions.”
Lessons are age-appropriate. Older
members explore technology-related careers
and learn to build a computer from scratch;
younger members begin identifying essential
computer parts and learn to perform Internet
searches.
Members gain a deeper knowledge of
hardware and operations, including how to
identify computer components and how they
interact. They take apart and re-assemble
computers, build simple networks, obtain
insight into how technology could evolve and
become familiar with the Internet and
networks.
DIGITAL ARTS SUITE
Using Digital Arts Suite software, Club members can develop
creative and critical-thinking abilities as well as advanced technology
skills by producing projects in Web design, graphic design, digital
photography, music making or movie making.
Combining technology and art attracts members to tech centers,
exposing them to creative uses for technology, including potential
career interests. Programs also prepare them to enter the Digital Arts
Festivals that run from September through May.
