Club Pla.net is a brand new program
with an emphasis on using technology to expand our knowledge of the communities
and cultures of the world. We hope to make contact with youth in other cities,
states, and even countries!
The Boys & Girls Club of Albany offers a seamless environment by
integrating its core programming with expanding technology. Our most
recent development, Club Pla.net (Partnership for Learning
and Achievement '.net')
encourages learning and achieving by covering basic computer
concepts and general information systems. Students will disassemble and
reassemble computers while learning the terminology and function of each
component.
The process of hands-on experience and repetition will provide
youth around the world with basic skills to utilize the benefits of technology
throughout their lives. Once the computers are assembled and tested, they are
stored on-site, and then distributed to youth at home and around the globe. The
focus of Club Pla.net is to target the communities and cultures that would
otherwise not have the resources and skills necessary for becoming
self-sufficient, productive, and responsible adults.
The ".net" in Club Pla.net symbolizes a network of youth
using a safe and protected means of communication
(i.e. e-pals). This communication will not only
educate the youth of other cultures by introducing them to
communities across the world, but also create
partnerships between them. Club Pla.net provide
youth with a variety of topics from everyday living, global economic
conditions, and an exchange of computer related skills.
Our intent is to
provide youth with advantages as they make their way through the dawn of
the technological age. The relationships built through Club Pla.net will
be meaningful; inspiring our youth to make an impact
in their world.
