The Grand Canyon covers 1,218,375 acres. The Grand Canyon is often thought of as one canyon but, really, is many canyons. The canyon is an average of 4,000 feet deep and 6,000 at it's deepest. It is 277 miles long and 15 miles wide at it's widest. No one knows exactly how the Grand Canyon was formed. One theory is that erosion combined with continental drift slowly, over millions of years, created the scenes you now behold.
