What is animal abuse?
Acts of violence or neglect
perpetrated against animals
are considered animal cruelty.
Many people who witness, or
hear about cruelty, are not
aware that legal action can
be taken to help stop the problem.
In a shocking amount of
abuse cases, those that commit
acts of violence to people,
serial killers, child abusers, spouse
beaters have a history of animal abuse.
Facts about animal abuse:
- The FBI considers animal cruelty to be one of the
predictors
of violence and considers past animal abuse when
profiling serial killers.
- More than 80 percent of families being treated for
child abuse were also involved in animal abuse.
- Northeastern University found that 70 percent of
all animal abusers have committed at least one other criminal offense and
that almost 40 percent had committed violent crimes against people
How to respond to animal abuse:
- If you live or work closely with some on e you
trust such as a teacher, camp counselor, or parent, you should tell them
immediately.
- if you are informed about animal abuse happening
some where, you need to tell the authorities immediately.
